Latest UK Innovation Survey published

More than half (53%) of small and medium-sized firms were engaged in innovative business activities from 2012 to 2014, up from 45% during 2010 to 2012, according to a survey of 15,000 business owners by the Department for Business.

The UK Innovation Survey 2015 has revealed that 42% of innovative firms used non-technological innovation, with developing new business practices (27%), new methods of organising work responsibilities (19%) and changes to marketing strategies (16%) the most common forms of non-technological innovation.

Of the 24% of business owners that used technological innovation, 19% used product innovation and 13% used process innovation.

The survey also found that the manufacturing sector was the most innovative, while hotels and restaurants were the least innovative.
