Low Carbon Services

Carbon emissions are an increasing concern for businesses and individuals alike. From a legal standpoint, mandatory carbon compliance requirements now apply to many more companies than before – but it is no longer simply a legal issue. For many buyers and investors, environmental responsibility now influences where they spend and place their money, so evidencing your carbon commitment will improve your bottom line, reduce your overheads and send the right message to your competitors and customers.

The Chamber’s Low Carbon Audit is designed with small and medium sized businesses in mind. We understand that as a business owner’s time is precious, and with so much information out there about Climate Change and Low Carbon, it’s important that you’re talking to someone that can “cut to the chase” and impart the knowledge that’s relevant to you.

Our qualified Decarbonisation Adviser is local to Kent & Medway and has been supporting SME’s across a broad range of sectors from Schools and Gyms to Care Homes, Hotels and Construction. We work with home based businesses as well as those with larger premises and multiple staff.

What’s included in your Low Carbon Audit report fee?

  • We will assign a dedicated Decarbonisation Adviser to your business in order to understand the challenges you’re facing
  • Your Adviser will arrange a telephone/online pre-meeting with board level or senior management to understand the your specific aims and objectives from the audit, set expectations and timescales, and undertake some initial desktop research on the business
  • Your Adviser will then make an appointment to meet with you to undertake a face-to-face interview and assess the current operation to understand the actions your business needs to take in order to drive towards Net Zero. Typically, this lasts approximately an hour and half and will require access to the past two years’ worth of energy consumption data. Your Adviser will also discuss your future growth plans to ensure the recommendations made in the report, are relevant and bespoke
  • Once all of the data has been collated and analysed, your Adviser will draft a detailed report that will include assessments of the following areas of carbon impact
  • Building makeup (age, construct, floors, offices, meeting rooms etc), utilities, fuels, heating provision, lighting, insulation, glazing, company vehicles (max 4), heavy equipment of note
  • Carbon footprint details – spread sheet inc. emission scope, type, units, Gov conversion factor, tCO2e figure
  • The report will present an analysis of usage, your carbon impact and will make recommendations in both a written and illustrative format in comprehensive document that can be shared with stakeholders
  • It will highlight the key areas for improvement in the context of your current business performance and mid to long term objectives. It will identify which are the quick wins and which will take a longer-term investment. It will give details on what carbon offsetting options might be available and local and national grant funding initiatives might be running in your area. It will also signpost to any current funded or commercial options to help you implement the report’s recommendations
  • In addition to your detailed report with recommendations, you will receive a “Confirmation of Audit” Certificate from the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and will be registered with the Government’s SME Climate Commitment Pledge platform and entitled to display the pledge logo on your collateral

The audit focuses on Scope 1 & 2 of the Green House Gas Protocol (read more here) and includes audit of a single location and no more than four fleet vehicles. Additional premises and larger fleets together with the option of expanding the service to a more detailed Scope 3 audit, incur additional fees. Our Adviser can tell you more about these additional services and costs.
