Kent Businesses Call For Swift Implementation Of Local Government Reorganisation
The Kent business community is urging local authorities and Government to prioritise the rapid implementation of the agreed Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) arrangements following the announcement of the future structure of local government across Kent and Medway.
In an open letter addressed to Council Leaders, Chief Executives and relevant Cabinet Members, Tudor Price, Chief Executive of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the certainty that the Government’s decision brings after an extended period of consultation and debate.
The Chamber’s letter highlights that while opinions may differ on the final model selected, business leaders believe the priority must now shift from discussion to delivery. Businesses require certainty, stable leadership and confidence in the institutions responsible for economic growth, infrastructure investment, housing delivery, skills development and transport improvements.
The Chamber warns that any prolonged transition period risks delaying critical decisions and diverting attention away from the economic priorities that matter most to employers, investors and residents across the county. Kent faces a number of significant opportunities and challenges, including major infrastructure projects, regeneration initiatives, workforce development and the adoption of new technologies, all of which require strong local government leadership.
The Chamber is calling on Kent and Medway councils, working alongside Government, to maintain momentum and implement the agreed arrangements as quickly and effectively as possible, ensuring continuity of frontline services whilst providing the strategic leadership businesses need to invest and grow with confidence.
