A group of colleagues from the Amazon team in Dartford made a visit to a hospice in Gravesend recently to pack gifts for adult patients being cared for by ellenor over Christmas.

ellenor’s hospice offers care both on site and in the home for babies, children, young people and adults across North Kent and Bexley. In addition to care support, the charity provides counselling and bereavement services as well as music and play therapy.

The group of ten Amazon team members spent an afternoon at the hospice packing Christmas gift bags which included warm clothes, gift sets and hygiene essentials.

Debora Moniz, an Amazon employee who was involved in the Christmas present packing, commented on the event. She said: “We had a lovely afternoon at ellenor, putting together Christmas presents for patients who are cared for by ellenor over the festive period. I hope the presents bring some Christmas joy and comfort.”

John McEwen, Site Leader at Amazon in Dartford, added: “ellenor is a brilliant organisation that provides excellent support to many families in the community. I am so pleased that we could give up some of our time to support the charity, especially during the festive period.”

Jemma Kemp, from ellenor, said: “It was a pleasure to have some of the Amazon team from the Dartford fulfilment centre at our hospice recently.  Each year we receive many kind donations for the children we support. However, Christmas isn’t just for children. We are grateful to be able to give all our adult patients a personally selected, wrapped and named gift from Amazon this year.”

Amazon in Dartford has a long-standing relationship with the team from ellenor and has supported the charity through donations and volunteering for two years.

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than seven million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country.

Earlier this year, Amazon partnered with Comic Relief to become the official home of the Red Nose. Amazon employees across the UK hosted fundraising activities and together with their customers and partners, raised £2.7 million to support those going through the toughest time of their lives.
