Huge Success For 21 Together Event In Margate Celebrating Kent’s Down’s Syndrome Community
More than 200 people from Kent’s Down’s syndrome community turned out for a special event in Margate hosted by charity 21 Together.
21 Together was set up in 2016 by four parents, each with a child with Down’s syndrome. It is now a vibrant and thriving community charity with families at the heart of everything they do, supporting children and young people with Down’s syndrome, their families and those that work with them.
Last year the charity launched pre-school sessions tailored for children with Down’s Syndrome at The Gap Project, Queens Road, Broadstairs.
In September the charity opened sessions at a dedicated space at the WonderWorks at Hornby in Margate where is runs preschool sessions (2-4 years) on Mondays and then sessions for those aged 5-11 years on alternate Saturdays.

To mark World Down’s Syndrome Day yesterday (March 23) 21 Together held a family event at Hartsdown Academy in Margate
A spokesperson said: “Our main act, Singing Hands, had everyone on their feet, singing and dancing along as they brought music to life in a truly inclusive way. Everyone was thrilled to see them in person and had an opportunity for photos to capture the moment! “Their show was followed by Reg E. Mental’s magic performance, which kept both children and adults entertained with fun and interactive tricks. It was also an opportunity to unveil our new community video, featuring our amazing families signing to Miley Cyrus’ The Climb.
“The atmosphere was buzzing as families enjoyed face painting, games, and delicious food and drinks from local vendors. It was a real pleasure to see so many smiles and so much laughter throughout the day.”
The event was originally planned to take place at St Augustine’s in Westgate but after going into administration, the charity was left without a venue until Hartsdown Academy stepped in and offered to host the event for free.
Special guest on the day included the Mayor and Mayoress of Margate, the Mayor of Broadstairs, and two Deputy Lieutenants of Kent who have all been supportive of 21 Together.
The spokesperson added: “We were also lucky enough to have been supported by the Thanet Freemasons and staff from Hornby Hobbies, who came along to volunteer their time on the day.
“Without support from kind volunteers, our events certainly wouldn’t run as smoothly. The presence of these people reinforced the importance of events like these in fostering a strong, inclusive community for individuals with Down’s syndrome and their families, and we are truly grateful to them for giving up their Sunday afternoon.
“We also want to extend a huge thank you to Hartsdown Academy for opening their doors to us, to our amazing performers, and to everyone who joined us to make this event so special.
“Seeing the joy and connection among our community reminds us why we do what we do at 21 Together—creating spaces where everyone feels valued, included, and celebrated.”
