A Year Of Funding From Fair4All Finance
If you were anywhere in Kent, Medway, or Bexley in 2025, you likely ran into Jennifer, our Community Engagement Officer. From rainy summer fetes and Christmas markets to high-level strategic boards, Wave Community Bank made sure ethical banking had a seat at every table.
The one-year of funding for this role by Fair4All Finance has been a game-changer. It allowed Wave Community Bank to reach our most vulnerable neighbours and provide a lifeline where it was needed most. To put it simply: we didn’t just meet our goals this year; we absolutely smashed them.
Why Wave Community Bank Matters
For Wave Community Bank, 2025 was about being a trusted, local face. Whether Jen was explaining how a credit union works or signposting someone to a community group over a digestive biscuit, the mission remained: ensuring no one feels left behind.
By integrating into education events and housing forums, we’ve proved that Wave Community Bank is an essential pillar of the regional support system. We are incredibly proud of the social value this funding achieved; it’s been exhausting, but the impact has been greater than we ever imagined.
When Wave Community Bank helps a member build financial resilience, the benefits ripple out to our local business community. It’s a simple cycle: a community that is better informed and more financially secure has more confidence to spend locally. By helping our members avoid high-cost “poverty premiums” and predatory lenders, we ensure they have more disposable income to put back into Kent, Medway, and Bexley businesses. Whether it’s a family having the budget for a local meal out or a resident finally being able to afford that repair from a local tradesperson, Wave Community Bank is proud to act as a bridge—keeping local money in local pockets, which ultimately keeps our high streets thriving.
A Year of Unprecedented Outreach
The variety of spaces occupied by Wave Community Bank ensured we were accessible to everyone, from policymakers to schoolchildren:
- Championing the Sector: Jen attended 336 meetings, championing Wave Community Bank and the VCSE sector as crucial to the local economy.
- Strategic Integration: We represented Wave Community Bank at Health Alliance and Housing meetings to keep financial wellbeing on the agenda.
- Creative Education: We delivered 112 presentations, famously using biscuits to explain APR and warn against the dangers of loan sharks.
- Community Roots: From schools to festive markets, Wave Community Bank accepted every invitation to support smaller community groups.
- A Holistic Hub: Beyond finance, Wave Community Bank acted as a navigator, signposting individuals to essential support agencies.
The year was a non-stop whirlwind of activity for Wave Community Bank, beginning with a strong focus on vulnerable groups through the South East Homelessness Forums and ‘Eat Well Spend Less’ events in Ashford. As spring arrived, we ramped up our visibility, celebrating International Women’s Day across the region, joining the National Numeracy Campaign, and even teaching financial literacy to Cubs. Our summer was defined by grassroots connection—from sponsoring tech innovation at Canterbury Christ Church University to a high-energy three-day marathon across Gravesend, Ashford, and Swale. As the seasons turned, Wave Community Bank prioritised strategic partnerships with organisations like the NHS, addressing the cost-of-living crisis at the National Energy Action forum and supporting apprentices. We brought the year to a festive close with a heavy presence at Christmas markets in Dover, Medway, Hawkinge, alongside high-level strategic work with the West Kent Health Alliance, ensuring our ethical banking mission remained at the heart of the community until the very last day of December.
Proving that when you meet people where they are—at a fete, a school, or a shopping centre—you build a more resilient, financially secure community.
