A Lifetime of Trust: How One Partnership Shows the Power of Long-Term Relationships In Business

In business, longevity is rare. But when trust, care, and consistency are part of the equation, partnerships can span decades — and even evolve beyond the business itself.

That’s certainly been the case for Office Assistants Director Lynn Watson and her client Michael, a respected hair salon owner from Romford. Their professional relationship began more than 30 years ago, long before Office Assistants was even founded, and has grown into something truly special: a partnership built on mutual respect, genuine friendship, and steadfast support through every stage of business and life.

From Salon Success to Life’s Transitions

Michael has been at the heart of his local community for over 45 years. His salon was known not just for great service, but for nurturing young talent — training dozens of stylists to NVQ Level 3 and helping them launch successful careers of their own.

When Lynn founded Office Assistants in 2003, Michael became one of her first clients. Over the years, she and her team have managed everything from bookkeeping and payroll to VAT returns, supplier payments, and HMRC liaison — evolving alongside the business as it transitioned from a bustling 25-strong salon to a rent-a-chair model, and later to Michael’s own freelance work.

Navigating Challenges with Compassion

The partnership was tested in 2024 when the salon’s lease expired and negotiations with the landlord’s executors became protracted and complex. When the property was sold the following year, the new owner’s approach made continuing untenable.

Lynn worked closely with Michael’s family and legal advisers to guide them through the decision to step away after 45 years. During that time, the Office Assistants team took on far more than financial admin — coordinating communications with suppliers, arranging solicitor appointments, and keeping Michael’s wife informed at every stage.

“It was a period that called for more than professionalism,” Lynn recalls. “It needed compassion and care.”

Support That Goes Beyond the Numbers

In more recent years, following Michael’s dementia diagnosis, Lynn’s team has continued to offer trusted support to both him and his family. They now help with day-to-day management of post, payments, and supplier communications — keeping his wife updated regularly and easing the administrative load so the family can focus on his well-being.

Their involvement has allowed Michael to retain his independence and dignity, knowing his affairs are handled by people who have known and cared for him for over three decades.

“We Only Work with Clients We Genuinely Like and Care About”

“I am so fond of Michael,” says Lynn. “He’s one of the kindest and most knowledgeable people I’ve ever worked with. It’s been a privilege to support him all these years.”

She believes Michael’s story sums up what makes Office Assistants different:

“We only work with clients we genuinely like and care about — it makes it easy to go the extra mile. Michael’s story shows how that approach builds real, long-term relationships that go far beyond bookkeeping.”
