60 Organisations Join Charity Oasis’s Webinar & Discover How To Help Clients Suffering Economic Abuse
Kent-based domestic abuse charity Oasis were delighted to welcome professionals including accountants, wealth managers and lawyers to their recent webinar. The event, designed to enhance understanding of domestic and economic abuse, focused on the prevalence of such abuse, how it might present itself in interactions with clients, and best practice for advisors if they have concerns.
Attendees were surprised to learn that one in five people in the UK have experienced financial abuse in an intimate relationship, ranging from being prevented from working to coercion into debt. This type of abuse can continue to impact long after the end of the relationship, with poor credit ratings and coerced debt leaving many victims crippled for years. Abusers often exploit financial systems, including taxation, to maintain control over victims. The webinar highlighted how professionals are uniquely positioned to identify warning signs and provide support.

The webinar was part of the Oasis Professionals Series, designed to help businesses and employers to learn more about domestic abuse, and establish practices that improve the experience of survivors in everyday life.
