This months speakers include;

Andrew Osbourne, Ashford Borough Council

Andrew Osborne, Head of Economic Development at Ashford Borough Council

Andrew has worked in Economic Development in Kent for over 20 years, in Gravesham, Maidstone and Ashford. During his time at Ashford he has seen considerable expansion of the local economy and been involved in delivering a number of the Council’s Big 8 projects in recent years including the delivery of the Elwick Road Campus building for Ashford College, new signalling for Eurostar services at Ashford International Station, and developments such as the Commercial Quarter, and Elwick Place.

Andrew has also delivered the Ashford For marketing campaign making Ashford the number one business location in Kent and was involved in the first Scale Up business support programme in the Kent in partnership with Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce. Currently Ashford is helping to drive forward the Ashford International Studios – Newtown Works project that has secured £14.7 million of Levelling Up Funding, as well the expansion and relocation of Brompton Bikes. Andrew will talk about Ashford’s new Super Six projects.

Lucy Druesne, Local Skills Improvement Programme (LSIP)

Local Skills Improvement Programme (LSIP) will be working to bring together Kent & Medway employers and key stakeholders to set out the priorities needed to ensure local provision is reflective of emerging skills needs. This is an opportunity for businesses in Kent & Medway to have a much stronger voice in local skills planning and ensuring the needs of business are at the heart of the skills system.

Lucy will outline what has happened since the last time members were asked about their views on Skills for the LSIP trailblazer and what they are doing now with the actions that came out of the trailblazer. She will then launch a new survey to establish what has changed in the last 12 months and help update the LSIP.
