Drinks reception followed by a sumptuous dinner

ATTENDANCE IS BY INVITATION ONLY

At a time of much uncertainty for the economy and for business, there is more value than ever in local business leaders coming together to support each other and to exchange ideas and opportunities.

With this in mind, we stage a series of Kent Business Leaders Dinners that enable like-minded business owners and directors to gather in an informal and relaxed environment. Our next event will be held at at The Old Brewery Store, Shepherd Neame, Faversham, on Tuesday 25th February. A drinks reception will be served from 5.30pm followed by a sumptuous dinner. Tickets are fully inclusive of an arrival drink, 3 course dinner, coffee and all wine, beer and soft drinks.

Our after-dinner speaker is David Cant. He will be taking us through the highs and lows of his life working in Moscow during some of the most turbulent political changes in Russia. A story that is sometimes comical, often scary, occasionally tragic, but never dull. David will also talk about his book, “Unfinished Business” and why some of the proceeds are being donated to the mental health charity, “SANE.”

We encourage all our guests to talk freely and to exchange opinions and ideas in a confidential and supportive environment. As a result, we ask guests to respect that this event is held under ‘Chatham House’ rules, hence no media representatives will be present.

Please note – we feel that, in these uncertain and challenging times, it is vital that our local business leaders come together in this way and that this event series should not be a profit driven activity hence the ticket price has been set at ‘cost’.

Dress Code: Usual Business Attire

Keynote Speaker: David Cant

David Cant graduated in Russian and then studied journalism, but later made the change to go into business. He joined an American company and was based in their Moscow office during some of the most turbulent political changes in Russia including the coup of 1991, the transition to a market economy and the dissolution of the USSR.

David then returned to the UK and worked with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) advising companies on doing business with Russia, before becoming Director of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce.

In 1996, David founded Albion (Overseas) Ltd which became a leading specialist in exporting to Russia, exporting in its own right as well as advising companies on how to enter the Russian market.

Albion is still alive today, despite the annexing of Crimea, Covid, and the war in Ukraine. It now offers export advice and support to businesses trading in Eastern European markets, including Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

In 2024 David, now residing in Kent, published his biography ‘Unfinished Business’ which relates the highs and lows of his life in Russia, doing business in one of the most aggressive and fast-moving business climates in the world. The book is sometimes comical, often scary, occasionally tragic, but never dull.

David is a keen sailor and in December 2024 he crossed the Atlantic in a 29-foot yacht taking part in the ARC Rally.
