Walker Construction (UK) Ltd is a multi-disciplined construction and civil engineering company operating throughout South East England.  Formed in 1965, it is a thriving, successful company with a track record of 55 years’ industry experience, including more than 35 years as a rail industry contractor.  It attributes its success to demonstrable experience and proven expertise; a strong desire to work closely with its customers and an exceptional working relationship with its employees.

To ensure a high level of operational focus, the company is centred around three operating divisions – Rail, Building and Civil Engineering – which, despite their autonomy, often work together. The company is active across the built environment and has undertaken projects for clients in the rail and rail infrastructure sector; for local authority, water and highway departments; for the Ministry of Defence; for healthcare and education clients and for housing and commercial building developers.

The company’s head office is in Folkestone, Kent, with geographic presence strengthened through area offices located in Verney Junction, Buckinghamshire, and Lingfield, Surrey.  In 2015, the company centralised its delivery teams and many of its key functions in a new office in Ashford, Kent, enabling it to build on its successful, collaborative working style.

The company has 250 employees and an annual turnover in excess of £42 million.

Much of the company’s success can be attributed to an exceptional working relationship with, and amongst, its employees.  A guiding philosophy is to actively encourage and reward working together as a team; internal relationships stimulating collaboration throughout the core business teams.

To maintain the high standards for which it is recognised and to provide clients with a ‘seamless service’, the company has evolved into being largely self-sufficient, preferring to deliver projects using in-house resources whenever possible.  Self-sufficiency also helps it successfully adapt to the constantly changing environment in which it works.

Founded on 9 September 1964 in Edmonton, North London, by brothers Hector, Stephen and Raymond Walker, the company initially specialised in local authority paving contracts.  By 1970 the company had relocated to Folkestone, Kent, taking advantage of the area’s growing prosperity and expanding its operations to cover structural construction work, highways and drainage.

Over the next two decades the company consolidated its position by undertaking civil engineering and public works contracts for both local and central government and, during the 1980s, civil engineering contracts for British Rail.

Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014, Walker Construction (UK) Ltd is now firmly established; its success making it one of the most prominent and widely respected construction and civil engineering companies in South East England.
