The Maidstone Distillery

Opening its doors in 2020, Maidstone Distillery is a modern revival of a centuries-old internationally-renowned Kentish brand. A small, family-run business, we are the third iteration of the “Maidstone Distillery”, the first being in operation back in 1785, after pioneering Kentish-man George Bishop led the charge to revolutionise the British gin industry. From travelling to Holland to learn the traditional craftsmanship of the Dutch Genever-makers, to successfully petitioning the UK Parliament to enshrine several Gin Acts into law, George Bishop was a firebrand in the spirit-making world. His spirits were so well-respected that they even feature amongst items representing ‘the best of British’ in a satirical cartoon featuring Napolean – James Gilray’s ‘The Handwriting Upon The Wall’. We are proud to share George’s story with the world once more, through the medium of our award-winning George Bishop London Dry Gin.

We are a unique visitor destination for unique experiences including our Tour and Tasting, Gin Making Experience and Cocktail Masterclass.

Our venue has capacity for 60 and can be hired for private events, meetings, social events etc too.

We also offer bespoke branded bottles of gins to celebrate a special anniversary, for client gifting or employee rewards.
