Regional and Global Impact
Our research, students, graduates and partnerships all contribute towards the prosperity of the regional economy and communities. Our students volunteer for an average of 15,000 hours a year. Many stay in the area after graduation, reinvesting their skills and knowledge, in public services and businesses. We also engage with the community through our outreach activity in schools.
Our education, research and partnerships make a significant difference in society, helping to shape new ideas, skills and opportunities. Thousands of our graduates work in the UK economy, teaching in schools, providing health and social care in the community, helping businesses to flourish and injecting talent into creative industries.
Responsive
We are constantly responding to local and regional societal and economic needs, providing more teachers, health workers, nurses and police officers for example. This will continue well into the future. Our new engineering courses help to address the sector’s skill shortage and the joint medical school helps the region to recruit and retain more doctors. Our range of digital and creative arts courses are responding to the rapidly changing skills requirements in the sector and we are also working closely with employers to develop a range of industry-led student projects.
