AC Goatham & Son is one of the leading top fruit growers in the UK with 28 farms with over 2,650 acres, employing on average 800 full and part time staff annually. It also has 20 partner farms with 2,000 acres. This year it will grow 300 million apples, an increase from 150 million in 2015 and 50 million pears, an increase from 40 million in 2015. This is equivalent to 1 in 4 British apples and 1 in 3 Conference pears sold in the UK each year.
Over the last several years been a major programme of investment throughout the business including acquisition of land, infrastructure, new technology used in grading and packing, cold storage, orchard planting and management. By 2020 alone over 2 million new trees will have been planted as part of the major expansion of the business.
The business is driven by continuous and ongoing investment to ensure sustainability for the future. The Construction of the state of the art £10 million packhouse and 24 cold storage units, doubled the capacity for cold storage and fruit packing at the business’ headquarters at Flanders Farm, Hoo.
