Caxtons Chartered Surveyors has begun a series of free, half-day seminars for clients, members of the public and professionals involved in property.
The first, a Landlords’ Residential Lettings’ Update 2018 was held at the Holiday Inn, Chatham on 6th November with speakers discussing a number of thorny issues relating to letting property.
The event was fully subscribed, and speakers included a property litigation specialist with an update on forthcoming changes in the law and their implications; a Chartered Insurance Broker on avoiding the pitfalls of underinsurance, keeping up with terrorism requirements and many other issues. A Health & Safety expert and a specialist EPC provider spoke on the relevance of Energy Performance Certificates in the rental market and assessing legionella risk in domestic properties. The final speaker told delegates what they should expect before engaging a good letting agent to manage their property.
On 21st November the second half-day seminar took place at The Princes Suite, Dartford Football Club, and focused on a 2018 Residential Block Management Update.
There was a full house to hear presentations on current fire safety regulations plus a review of the recent Dame Judith Hackitt fire safety report (Grenfell Tower); the legal obligations and responsibilities of residents’ management company directors, service charge demands, and Section 20 consultation; Directors and Officers insurance, dealing with major claims and the importance of terrorism cover; and finally, what should be on the check-list when appointing a good block managing agent.
