41% of UK businesses aren’t ready for a no-deal Brexit, according to a survey from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC). Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce (KICC) has managed to secure government funding to boost Brexit preparations amongst Kent businesses.
In recent weeks, the UK government has considerably ramped up the volume of communication and support available to businesses to prepare for a withdrawal of the UK from the EU without a withdrawal agreement. Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce has won £100,000 of the Brexit Readiness funding to support Kent businesses of all sizes in making sure they are ready on 31st October 2019.
22 Brexit Ready Kent clinics, free and open to both Chamber members and non-members, will be held in the coming weeks in various locations across the county to support Kent organisations with risk assessment, information and guidance to understand and prepare for the practical implications of the exit from the EU.
“The ongoing political turbulence about Brexit has led too many businesses to bury their heads in the sand”, says Jo James, CEO of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, “yet both the EU and the UK government have prepared rules and processes in case of a no-deal exit. There is very little time left for businesses to implement these arrangements if they want to stay in the race.”
Specifically tailored to certain industry areas, the Brexit Ready Kent workshops will be facilitated by panels of sector experts to review the different aspects of their industry. These specialists will cover the new regulations and processes that have already been drawn by both the European Union and the United Kingdom.
The Brexit Ready Kent clinics will cover:
- Brexit Update
- Overview of sector-specific topics such as: data transfer, intellectual property, import & export, contracts, waste management, HR and employment of EU citizens, travel, labelling, customs and tax implications, VAT, etc.
- Sector-specific Brexit checklists
“Kent is a border region; there is no doubt that local businesses will be impacted directly or indirectly by the changing economic landscape”, adds Jo James. “Brexit Ready Kent aims to mitigate the impact of a no-deal Brexit on our local businesses.”
