Light At The End Of The Tunnel: The Difference A Supported Internship Can Make!

Light at the end of the Tunnel

The COVID-19 pandemic has been hard for everyone, including Kent’s hard-working businesses.  Many of you will have stopped trading, furloughed staff and faced much uncertainty.  Here at bemix, we understand the kind of challenges you’ve faced during this time. All of our in-person projects went online, and we put our Supported Internship work placements on hold temporarily.

We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  The world of business is opening up again which comes with its own set of challenges. You have to keep your staff and customers safe by adhering to social distancing, and recruitment will likely be harder. The money you would have spent hiring new staff will likely need to be invested in other areas of the business. Many businesses will be bouncing back from the pandemic and may need an extra pair of hands to get back on their feet.

“An extra pair of hands is always welcome, so why not let us help you find the right person to fill that role?”

On average, across all sectors,  the cost to employers of replacing a single member of staff is £5,433, according to a report from Oxford Economics in 2014. We are sure you agree that, during this time, anything that helps to reduce this cost will help your business bounce back.

Supported Internships and your Business

Here at bemix, we have a solution for you.

We provide a free job-matching service to help employers recruit and retain people with learning difficulties and/or autism in an unpaid, one year Supported Internship.  The programme has been designed to help employers like you to access a mostly untapped loyal, dedicated local workforce. An extra pair of hands is always welcome, so why not let us help you find the right person to fill that role?

In our experience, we find people with autism and/or learning difficulties are often stereotyped and therefore limited in the jobs open to them. The latest figures from BASE show that only 5.9 % of people with a learning difficulty are in work. Those with learning difficulties have so much to offer and have untapped skills that can be matched to your business needs. Businesses with an open mind who have joined our programme have seen evidence of the value these young people bring to their workforce.

“From the management helping us recruit the right intern, through to the work coaches supporting the intern and our workforce on a daily basis, bemix have been with us every step of the way, making it a really rewarding experience for all of us, and I would highly recommend any other company to get involved.”

Paul Gunner, Service Manager at Macknade
