The Kent Construction Focus Group (KCFG) is a one-stop shop for local businesses to discuss the future of Kent development, giving companies access to local knowledge, expertise and contracts. KCFG promotes the future role of Kent land development and construction businesses in the growth and development of Kent and its environment.

Hosted by members of the KCFG committee, Cheryl Causebrook and Ella Sandall.

This month’s guest speakers:

Lisa Carlson, Canterbury Business Improvement District (BID)

Lisa Carlson is CEO of the Canterbury Business Improvement District, leading multiple forums and working groups representing business interests across a range of topics from inward investment and destination management to climate change and safety & security.

She is a Kent Ambassador and chairs Canterbury’s Purple Flag partnership for the evening and night-time economy, the tourism consortium (Visit Canterbury) and represents Canterbury BID on the Canterbury Climate Action Partnership. Lisa previously worked at the World Bank and the London School of Economics and has a background in media and operations in the charity sector.

Lisa is also Chair of the Association of Town and City Management, which represents placemakers across the UK and Ireland. She appears regularly on local and regional television and radio. Lisa is part of the High Streets Task Force Sector Leaders Group and regularly joins the All Party Parliamentary Group for Towns and City Centres.


Liz Wellstead, Streets Ahead Collective

Liz Wellstead is a creative director, designer, and community arts leader dedicated to using creativity as a catalyst for empowerment, education, and social change. As CEO of Streets Ahead Collective, she leads collaborative projects that bring together artists, students, and community groups to transform underused city spaces into vibrant creative hubs, fostering skills, confidence, and meaningful connection.

She is also Director of Rock Paper Scissors, an independent lifestyle shop and art studio in Canterbury that champions local makers through exhibitions, workshops, and mentoring. Alongside this, Liz serves as Director of BRIT Kids Canterbury, delivering inclusive creative education programmes in partnership with The BRIT School. Her work is driven by a clear mission: building inclusive communities through creativity and meaningful social impact.

Streets Ahead Collective is a community-led creative organisation based in Canterbury that brings together artists, students, and community groups to transform underused spaces into vibrant creative hubs. Through collaboration, inclusive practice, and socially engaged projects, the collective uses creativity to build skills, confidence, and connection. A core part of its impact is creating employment pathways and opportunities for people and communities that are often overlooked, helping to strengthen local communities and drive meaningful social change through the arts.

Liz Wellstead will share insights into the current Streets Ahead Collective project in Hersden, highlighting how creative collaboration is transforming spaces into vibrant hubs that support community engagement, skills development, and new local opportunities. She will also outline the longer-term vision for Streets Ahead Collective, establishing a permanent city-centre presence that will serve as an inclusive creative hub, connecting artists, community groups, and partners while generating lasting cultural, social, and economic impact across the region.
