Get Involved In Back British Farming Day 2023

13th September 2023
Paul Brooks

Today is Back British Farming Day 2023.

Now in its eighth year, it is a day to celebrate our farmers and growers and the British food that they provide us with.

This year, Back British Farming Day gives us an opportunity to remind MPs why they must have British food and farming at the forefront of their strategy to win votes in the upcoming General Election.

The NFU will be hosting a breakfast reception in the House of Commons, during which MPs will learn about the important work that British farmers and growers do all year round. MPs will also be able to publicly demonstrate their support for farming by wearing our iconic wool-and-wheatsheaf badge, grabbing a photo, and sharing their support via Twitter using the hashtag #BackBritishFarmingDay.

How you can get involved on social media

It’s really easy to share your own story and why you back British farming. Need some inspiration? Here’s some ideas to get you started:

  • Share why you Back British Farming and nominate 3 others to do the same on social media.
  • Create your own content that tells your British farming story and use the hashtag #BackBritishFarmingDay
  • Send in your videos. This can be a series of clips that we can edit on your behalf. Video ideas include:
    • A day in the life. This can involve talking to the camera and showing snippets of your day on the farm.
    • You talking to the camera about one aspect of your farm and explaining it. Be sure to include clips of what you are talking about to keep it interesting.
    • Explanation video’s, like this one.
    • Telling people why you love being a British farmer.

Send in your videos

If you have video clips you’d like to send us, please email socialmedia@nfu.org.uk and we will send you a file transfer link to upload your videos to. Please do not send video clips via email.

What is the wheatsheaf pin badge?

The wheatsheaf badge is representative of the celebratory spirit of Back British Farming Day. Members of Parliament will wear the badge in PMQs (Prime Minister’s Questions) to demonstrate their support for British farmers.

It’s made of wheat sourced from farms in the spectacular countryside of Shropshire, and wool from Devon’s Blue Face Leicester sheep which has been spun and dyed blue and red specifically to celebrate British food and farming.

The badge is emblematic of all that British farmers and growers deliver for rural communities and the nation, producing climate-friendly food while also caring for our cherished landscapes, providing sustainable and natural fibres for clothing and insulation, producing renewable energy and much more.
