High Sheriff Visits Downsview
It’s been a busy few months at Downsview.
Firstly we have had some tremendous successes with our young people who are now moving on from Downsview. Dan has secured a rented property in Canterbury and a job working as chef also in Canterbury, you can read Dan’s story here and following some excellent results whilst attending college whilst at Downsview Zain and Cymberlay are both of too university, Zain is going to Queens, London and Cymberlay is off to Falmouth. We wish them all luck in their future endeavours.
If you follow us on social media you will have seen we had the High Sheriff of Kent Nadra Ahmed visit us ,the photo is of Nadra with our young people who thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Thank you Nadra for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and visit us.
In Chamber Connections Joe Parker Financial Adviser came in to give a talk around all things finance , from tax, national insurance, mortgages, pensions and general budgeting tips. I met Joe at a networking event arrange by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce and he made a potentially dry topic very interesting to our young people who had lots of questions for Joe about numerous topics.
Now onto the exciting news we are working with SIM Motorsport another chamber member and Simon is giving opportunities to our young people to learn more about what he does and his experiences in the world of motorsport you can find more information here.
We have had some wonderful donations to the centre Clive Emson donated a lovely TV which has allowed us to set up a gaming area for our young people, something they’ve been asking for. Paul Pierce from Chilston Park Hotel has donated some wonderful wing back chairs which have been added to our Counselling room and are very comfortable as well as crockery and cutlery which has been gratefully received to be used at the centre and Peter Harris from Freedom Leisure has donated day passes for our young people to use the local gyms which will be great for their mental health.
