Rachelle Sherwood, an artist living in Canterbury put together a charity event on Saturday 6th March (Backed by Oxfam). The event was called "Art Auction 4 Haiti" (AA4H) and was held at St Peter’s Methodist Church on Canterbury High Street near Westgate Towers. The viewing began at noon and the auction commenced at 3:00 pm.
What’s more, the reserve price was extremely low due to the nature of the auction – i.e. to raise as much money as possible in the limited time available. ALL works began at the reserve price of £25. No catch, no strings attached, only the fervent desire to raise as much cash as possible for Haiti. That was the goal, and was surpassed. And the reason behind why so many artists donated their work with extreme generosity.
The total rasied came to an amazing £2,639.60!
The power of art has swept Oxfam off their feet. Their rep said: "It was the singularly largest sum of money he’s ever seen raised in Canterbury by one event!" Click here for more details.
