Careers Day - Homewood School, Tenterden, 9th November 2011. We need businesses to come along and show students what is on offer. To them the future looks pretty bleak and its not their fault.
So, please book a table and meet the students face to face, show them that we do care and just take a day out and come and talk.
We need businesses from all walks of life to give the students as wide a menu as possible. Larger Companies have everything in house, so come and tell them.

Please make the effort and contact Sam West at Homewood School direct, on s.west@homewood.kent.sch.uk or Richard Lavender the Young Chamber Coordinator on richard@kentinvictachamber.co.uk.

Thanks for the comments QJ. I guess there has long been a history of strong personalities who head up companies setting the tone and personality for their business, where they are synonymous with it. And with the advent of YouTube there is now more opportunity for business owners to be the visible face of their companies. You are right though, they have to be ultra careful how they present themselves as once out, there is no putting the genie back in the bottle!

Malcombe, interesting article.
You are quite right; a brand is the personality of the company. And doesn't it also promise the style or way in which you will experience the company's products/services?
For example, with Branson, whether he's selling you mobile phones, flights, or credit cards, he (as Virgin) promises that the experience will always be fun and sexy? (Not sure if that's exactly the brand values, but I hope you get my drift.)
My interest this year, though, is in Personal Branding, or, as I call it, Personality Branding.
Let me explain: We're living in the era of the Celebrity Chef (Ramsay, Oliver), and the Celebrity Entrepreneur (Bannatyne, Sugar, Trump, etc.) Each of these individuals has created (some with more careful crafting than others) his own personal brand. The brand is about three things IMHO: 1) who the person is, i.e. their personality; 2) how they do what they do (their type or style of cooking or running a business); and 3) what they do, i.e. what they cook, or what business they run.
We'd be foolish to think that their self-promotion didn't have an impact on their business, wouldn't we? So the value of the Personality Brand is pretty obvious.
My proposition is that any business owner can benefit in this way by becoming highly visible on platforms like YouTube, where the numbers of viewers has now exceeded the numbers of viewers of regular television.
But there is a caveat: the public personality or persona must be carefully crafted or they risk losing the very audience they wish to seduce.
Done right, though, this is an exciting opportunity, which business owners are already exploiting, particularly in the field of personal and business development.
To aid this crafting process, we have developed – with more than three years of R&D – our own unique “Personality Development Programme” which guarantees to promote the business owner as ‘the face of the company’ in a way which gets them noticed, remembered and talked about.
If you’d like to know more, why not email or call me 01227 832154, 07738 597 383, qj@theinspirationist.com.

Good to be back!
After a short leave of absence from the Chamber, we're delighted to return in earnest and good shape for 2011.
Our focus this year will be on helping businesses to get onto YouTube (and thus, their website) with enticing content, great personality, and cool branding.
If you are providing a personal service, then please consider producing a personal business video. That's you as the face of your business.
After all, it's you that your customers buy into, and you can be there, in person, online 24/7, being real, authentic and likeable, and at the same time, sell your products and services in an attractive and alluring way.

I could not agree more, customer service is what I am fully commited to, purchasing anything is all about the experience and not even to be acknowledged is really not good at all.
